Commission a portrait, custom painting or illustration
How does commissioning a portrait or illustration work?
It is helpful if you have selected some of my previous works that you would like your piece to resemble, so you could begin by taking a look at my portfolio of portraits or illustrations. When you initially contact me we will discuss everything entailed. This can be via a face to face meeting if that’s possible, otherwise via email or phone. At this point I’ll help you to decide things like size and medium of the work.
I will update you with the progression of your painting through photos sent via email. You can be a part of the process, adding input on elements and colours to be added as desired. In the event that you are unhappy with the artwork or illustration, I will rework the piece until you are satisfied. I’m happy to say this has never yet happened!
What is the payment process?
You can view prices for portraits here.
All commissioned work requires a 50% down payment of the total cost up front, on order to cover material costs and as a deposit.
Payment is accepted directly via my shop using either Paypal or bank transfer. If you have any queries please contact me and I’ll be happy to help. Please note that delivery of artwork within the UK is free, but international delivery is charged depending on the size and weight of the artwork. You can select the option ‘Calculate Shipping’ to find out the cost of shipping before making a payment.
For reasons of cost and security I am unfortunately unable to post artwork framed in glass. Works on paper are therefore sold mounted, ready to frame. I am happy to advise on framing, and should you be based near Lancaster, I can highly recommend Tom Chesters of Bay Framing.
How long do commissioned paintings take?
Custom artwork takes 2 weeks to 2 months depending on the waiting list. Please be sure to contact me in adequate time in advance of your deadline, and let me know when it is needed.
Please note that the copyright to all original artwork is the property of myself, Janet Mary Robinson. I do not sell the rights to my images, whether commissioned or otherwise. You are simply purchasing the original artwork. In the case of commissioned illustrations, I will assign a licence to you covering the use of the illustration as required.
