The Last Skydancer on show at Platform Gallery, Clitheroe

Sketching in the Butterfly House
Here are some photos from this morning’s Art in the Park class. It was lovely to spend a couple of hours in some tropical warmth. The butterflies are attracted to bright colour and kept landing on our paints and pencils. I think all the sketches convey a real sense of life. A good morning!

Charcoal portrait
My art class this morning were practising drawing faces in charcoal, using putty rubbers (and electric rubbers, which are brilliant although they sound like dentist’s drills!) to lift out the highlights. It’s a good method to use when the subject is dimly lit. This is my unfinished drawing, sorry dude…

Saltmarsh swallows, 1st of September
I went down to the coast by Pilling yesterday evening. The swallows were swooping around me and the sun was low across the salt marsh and fields, lighting them up in gold, but hazy grey cloud was low over Clougha.
