Shetland landscape, red cliffs near Eshaness

In my studio I’m currently working on a series of Shetland landscapes. This acrylic painting is my most recent one, of the crumbling red sandstone cliffs near Eshaness, on the far west of the Shetland mainland. It’s painted in acrylic using a palette knife.

However, time for a change; I’m off to Speyside on Saturday on a wildlife painting holiday.  I was awarded a bursary which includes the holiday from the Society of Wildlife Artists. I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve managed precious few days drawing outdoors this year, apart from in Shetland. I only survived that by knitting a scarf and hat to wear while sketching. I aim to be better equipped this time round, however, please keep your fingers crossed that the weather improves a little
