Salt Ayre is Lancaster and Morecambe’s landfill site, a big domed grassy field on the north side of the river from my usual haunt at Marsh Point. About 40 horses graze on it. I don’t know whose they are, but its the most horses I’ve ever seen in one place. I painted this very quickly in the drizzle.
Random piece of information; like many place names around here, Ayre is Old Norse meaning shingly beach. This area of Lancashire is definitely Viking!
